We often find ourselves in the hit of impulsive shopping, just because that piece of garment is on sale or you don’t have that exact color. In the end, only to realize your wardrobe is overcrowded, and still, you find it challenging to combine 2-3 pieces.
There are a few things we can start practicing today that will help us overcome those moments of impulsive shopping.
1. Unsubscribe from Retailer emails and delete Shopping Apps on your phone
One of the ways we fall for impulsive shopping is after receiving advertising emails from our favorite stores with new collection arrived. And to be even more convenient, having the mobile app from the same retail, we tend to buy something even if we already have it. So starting with these few steps, you can prevent unintentional shopping.
2. Visit your closet and make Inventory
I’m sure at least a few times you find yourself standing in front of your overcrowded closet, asking yourself what to wear, and in the end, your mind is screaming, “Shit, I don’t have what to wear,” right :)?
So it’s time to change that.
– FIRST, REMOVE EVERYTHING
Yes, you take everything and put it on your bed (for ex.), including clothing from your drawers, under your bed, on your chair, and any other spots you’re hiding clothes. 🙂
– SECOND, TRY EVERYTHING
So, pour yourself a coffee and start. If your wardrobe’s size is similar to mine, this will take you at least a few hours. Make it fun, try everything, see how you feel in every garment, ask yourself if you didn’t have this piece, would you miss it or would you buy it? You can make combinations from your favorite tunes and take pictures for later.
The goal is to declutter your wardrobe, which will make it easier for you when choosing what to wear every day.
If you want to go deeper into the process, you can watch the documentary of Mary Kondo and implement her technic.
3. Choose your Colors and Stick to it
When you are trying your clothes, find out which colors you are attracted to the most, choose 2 to 3 primary colors, and stick to it.
Finding out what colors you love will be a considerable time and money saver. Dressing in the morning will become more comfortable for you to mix and match, and when you see that red hot jacket on the store window, you will immediately realize you have nothing to wear with it.
4. Create a Budget
It is not that scary as it sounds. Creating a budget means creating a plan of how to spend and save your money. In the beginning, having a plan in advance will be difficult to follow, but once you develop the habit and stick to it, it will help you know where your money is going.
5. Buy items that match your lifestyle, not the current trend
Having your favorite colors in mind, now is the time to choose your style, which matches your lifestyle. When we feel that we don’t have what to wear often can relate to the fact that we have a lot of stuff that doesn’t go along together, they don’t match.
Find out your lifestyle outfit, look at your wardrobe, and think about how often you engage in certain activities.
For example, do you have many swimwear in your closet, but you rarely go to the beach or pool, or you may have a lot of activewear, but you don’t exercise very often or practice any sports?
In this case, you may want to consider re-selling these items, donating, or you can organize a swap clothes party with your friends. So, if you have an office job, you can concentrate on creating a wardrobe with casual office style.
